How To Make a Vision Board

Envisioning my future is something I learned when I was a teenager. A Sports Psychologist was brought into our Rhythmic Gymnastics Club to teach us mindset and visualization techniques. In my 20’s I remember creating a binder dedicated to all the things I wanted in my life. I bought a pile of magazines, cut out inspiring photo’s and put them in the binder. At least once a day I would look at those photo’s as a reminder of who I wanted to be and the things I wanted to accomplish.

Fast forward 20 years later and now I create Vision Boards. I typically use Pinterest, selecting photo’s of things that inspire me. I print them off and post them to my cork board that hangs in my office. There is no right or wrong way of creating a vision board. I like doing mine on a cork board and I also design a digital version so I can have it as a screensaver on my phone and laptop.

Vision Boards are a powerful tool that will help you set a clear path to your goals and where you can claim your biggest dreams. It’s personal and it’s meant to inspire you. Here are my steps and tips on creating a vision board. Let’s get started!

#1: Choose one or more formats for creating your vision board. You can design your vision board using a corkboard, poster board or a digital version using your laptop or phone.

#2:  Choose a day and time when you have at least an hour to yourself without distraction. I love Sunday’s for creating and planning but any day that works for you without distraction is perfect. It can be an afternoon to yourself or make it a ladies night and invite a few friends to join you.

#3: Organize your supplies. For a corkboard or poster board you will need the board, scissors and tacks or double sided tape. You can choose to grab some magazines and cut out your photos or find them on Pinterest or Canva, print them off and cut them out. If your creating a digital vision board then all you need is your laptop, Pinterest and a program such as word or Canva to copy and paste the photos to.

#4: Get creative and dream big! Take a moment to reflect on what’s important to you. If you need some ideas or inspiration, creating a Life Dream List first can help. What matters is that you find photo’s and words or phrases that are exciting and authentic to you.

#5: Keep your Vision Board where you can see it. Once you are done creating your Vision Board, put it somewhere that you can look at it everyday. If you created a digital version, save it as a jpg and use it as a screensaver for your phone or laptop. I like to look at mine first thing in the morning and before I go to bed. It’s help set my intentions for the day and reminds of me of my goals, dreams and the life I want to live.
